Inside WIA’s Education Sponsorship Program

Why Sponsorship Matters Now

Families from Qui-Croit have been displaced, and the community’s only school was shut down and occupied by armed groups. WIAH secured a safe place where children could continue learning—but safety alone cannot sustain their education.

On January 27, 2025, armed gangs stormed Qui-Croit, killing innocent people — including children.

Nearly 600 students, from kindergarten through 9th grade, were forced to flee with their families. The community’s only school was seized and occupied by gangs. Homes were burned. The families of Qui-Croit, mostly small-scale farmers, lost everything: their land, their livestock, their livelihoods.

Today, these families live as displaced people. Parents who once fed their children from their own farms now have no income and no way to pay even modest school fees. Children who were already walking for over an hour through mountainous terrain to reach a classroom are now walking even farther, many of them almost barefoot, with shoes that have holes in the soles or with the uppers completely detached.

Words In Action secured the use of an available complex in Fort Jacques and reopened the school so these children would not lose the academic year. What began with fewer than 100 students has grown to nearly 300 children, ages 3 to 18, who continue showing up despite everything they have experienced. Sponsorship helps provide the teachers, tuition, learning materials, and daily nourishment they need to continue their education. For some children, the school meal may be the only dependable meal they receive that day.

"Sponsorship is not just financial support; it is a lifeline, an act of faith that says, 'You matter. Your story can change.'" — Dr. Claude Louis, Founder

Why the Child Directory Is Private

We do not publish every child’s full story and picture publicly.

Children’s stories and photographs deserve dignity, privacy, and care. WIAH does not place unrestricted child profiles throughout the public website.

To view the sponsorship directory, visitors provide their name and email and acknowledge how that information will be used. Access then remains active on that device for 30 days.

Public profiles use only the child’s first name and the information needed to help prospective sponsors make a thoughtful decision.

Every sponsored child receives a complete “Learning Continuity Package” — school access, books, uniforms, a nutritious meal each school day, and a safe place to study. Together, these essentials help remove the barriers that can push a child out of the classroom.

What Your Sponsorship Helps Provide

A $30 monthly or $360 annual sponsorship contributes to the complete support a child needs to continue learning.

Sponsorship also helps WIAH maintain qualified educators, safe learning spaces, and consistent adult support for children whose education has already been disrupted.

School Access

Covers tuition and fees so a child’s family never has to choose between school and survival.

Daily Meals

One hot meal a day — for many of these children, the only meal they will eat.

Books and Materials

Textbooks, notebooks, uniforms — everything a child needs to show up ready to learn.

English and Computer Classes

Access to language and technology instruction that opens doors beyond Qui-Croit.

In Qui-Croit, keeping a child in school changes everything.

    • It means a six-year-old learns to read instead of working the fields.
    •
    • It means a teenager discovers she can become a nurse, an engineer, a leader.
    •
    • It means a community that lost nearly everything begins to rebuild itself — not with concrete and steel, but with knowledge, confidence, and purpose.
    •

When a child stays in school, the ripple effect reaches far beyond the classroom. Families gain hope. Teachers gain reason to stay. And a generation that was told their future was over begins to prove otherwise

One Child Was Given an Opportunity. Today, He Is Helping Others.rs.

Before becoming Dr. Claude Louis, WIAH’s founder was a child whose education continued because someone chose to help. That opportunity shaped his life—and inspired his commitment to helping children in Qui-Croit build futures of their own.
