This year marks the second edition of the Words In Action Haiti Summer Camp. Its theme, Ann Dekouvri (Let’s Discover) invites every child to explore their abilities and imagine what they can become. Its slogan declares: “Mwen dekouvri, mwen kreye, m ap konstwi avni m”—I discover, I create, and I am building my future.
Through art, crochet, leadership activities, dancing, and practical skills, we will help our children understand that the circumstances surrounding them do not have the final word on who they become. Gang violence may have displaced them, but it cannot define their identity, silence their dreams, or determine their future. The camp will give them space to learn beyond the traditional classroom, express themselves, discover their talents, experience joy, and simply enjoy being children.
Because children deserve more than survival. They deserve a safe place to learn, laugh, build friendships, and experience a sense of normalcy—even when life around them remains uncertain.
Unfortunately, limited funding allows us to welcome only 30 children to the camp. Many more children would benefit from this opportunity, but we cannot reach them without additional support.
This is at the heart of Words In Action Haiti’s mission: to educate and empower Haitian youth while honoring their dignity and their ability to shape their own future. We respond to urgent needs, but we do not stop there. We help children continue living, learning, and believing in what is still possible.
Your support can help us welcome more children to the summer camp and expand access to the educational, creative, and leadership activities WIAH provides throughout the year.
