“I’m All Grown Now, Papa” is the first of four children’s books written by Claude Louis. Published in September 2021, it shares a heart warming childhood memoir of Claude’s early years growing up without his father, enlightening others about the experience of growing up in rural Haiti and the pursuit of a dream through education.
“When Kais Met Toussaint” is the second book released by Claude Louis, and his wife Kristin Louis, on January 1st 2022, introducing children to the relatively unknown revolutionary hero Toussaint Louverture. The book presents him in a very endearing way, through a chance encounter in the school hallway between a 3rd grade boy and an unlikely tutor, illuminating a genuine legend to celebrate during Black History Month and the whole year through.
100% of the proceeds of the books go to Words in Action Haiti to raise funds for their education projects, including desperately needed renovations to the elementary school in Qui Croit, improving teacher training, establishing a library and sponsoring over 100 local scholarships. These scholarships include twelve university students studying in fields of health and education, who have made a commitment to return to serve their community. The remaining books, for slightly older children, titled “The Girl with the Golden Heart” and “The Mountain Boy”, for a slightly older youth audience, are due to be published later in 2022.
